  • Name FIFO LIFE Mobile App
  • Industry Information Technology
  • Location Bangalore, India
  • Tool Used 38 android devices
  • Project Members 47
  • Project Length 8 days

Overview

‘FIFO Life’ is a multi-functional mobile app for the Fly-In, Fly-Out (FIFO) industry in Australia. Mixing social networking, roster management, family and mental health management, live forums, live chat, and friend searches, ‘FIFO Life’ aims to remove the feeling of isolation that many FIFO workers feel in their day-to-day working lives.

The client was looking for full functionality testing of their app on Android and iOS platforms within a short span of time. The app framework was required to be tested across two different platforms with real devices to ensure the best end-user experience.

The Challenge

The client needed complete functional testing of the FIFO Life mobile app across both Android and iOS platforms within a tight deadline of just 8 days. The app had complex features including social networking, roster management, live chat, and mental health tools. Key challenges included:

  • Testing across two different mobile platforms with real devices
  • Very short project duration of 8 days
  • Need for real end-user experience validation
  • Coverage of diverse functionality – chat, forums, roster, social features

The Solution

TestUnity deployed a crowd testing approach with 47 testers using 38 real Android and iOS devices. The solution provided:

  • Crowd testing execution – 47 testers working in parallel
  • Real device coverage – 38 different Android and iOS devices
  • Comprehensive test cycles – functional, usability, and compatibility testing
  • Rapid defect reporting – real-time bug tracking and validation

The Approach

Our crowd testing team followed a structured 8-day execution plan:

  • Day 1-2: Test case preparation and device matrix setup
  • Day 3-6: Parallel testing execution across 38 devices
  • Day 7: Defect triage and regression testing
  • Day 8: Final validation and sign-off
  • Continuous: Real-time defect reporting and test execution tracking

Each tester focused on specific user journeys to ensure comprehensive coverage of all app features.

📊 Key Results

  • 47 testers deployed – covering both Android and iOS platforms
  • 38 real devices used – for authentic end-user experience validation
  • 100% test coverage achieved – all features tested within 8 days
  • Zero critical defects reported post-launch
  • Client confidence increased – app launched successfully with positive user feedback
