Regression Testing of Contestee Platform

  • Name Contestee
  • Industry Information Technology
  • Location Bangalore, India
  • Tool Used Jira, OWASP
  • Project Members 2 Manual QA
  • Project Length 2 years

Overview

In English, “Contestee” refers to someone competing in a contest. Contestee is a social network that promotes global talent discovery through competitions. Using Contestee, anyone can showcase their amazing talents, skills, and attributes. Become famous by uploading your videos, collecting votes, and collecting likes!

TestUnity began working on Contestee in November 2019. An Android and iOS application built by a Development Agency was brought to us for validation.

The Challenge

The Contestee Android and iOS applications were built by an external development agency. When the applications were brought to TestUnity for validation, key challenges included:

  • Ensuring seamless functionality across both Android and iOS platforms
  • Validating critical user journeys: video uploads, voting, and like collection
  • Identifying security vulnerabilities in a social networking platform handling user-generated content
  • Establishing a long-term regression testing strategy for ongoing feature releases

The Solution

TestUnity provided comprehensive regression testing services over a 2‑year engagement. Our solution included:

  • Manual regression testing: Two dedicated QA engineers executed detailed test cycles
  • Security testing: OWASP-based security assessments to protect user data
  • Jira integration: Streamlined defect tracking and reporting
  • Cross‑platform validation: Consistent testing across Android and iOS builds

The Approach

Our QA process followed a continuous regression methodology over the two‑year project lifespan:

  • Initial Validation: Deep‑dive testing of the existing application to baseline quality
  • Regression Cycles: Repeated test execution for each new feature release
  • Security Audits: Periodic OWASP-based vulnerability scanning
  • Reporting & Sign-off: Daily defect tracking via Jira and weekly quality reports

📊 Key Results

  • Long‑term partnership: 2 years of continuous regression testing support
  • High test coverage: All critical user journeys validated on both platforms
  • Security hardened: OWASP-based testing reduced vulnerability risks
  • Seamless user experience: Zero critical defects reported after major feature releases
